The most frustrating feature of using Exchange Gmail with the iOS mail client is not having the ability to swipe and trash an email, instead it will archive - a real annoyance at times.

However, it seems that this feature has now been implemented (albeit rather discretely by Google) via the device settings pane at http://m.google.com/sync

P367

I'm not sure exactly when this feature became active but I'm thankful it has and its one more reason for me not to use a 3rd party iOS Gmail client any time soon.

Late last week I was introduced to a project called Swÿp which allows you to move files (such as Photos for example) across iOS devices by simply performing a swipe gesture from the sending devices screen across to the recipients screen.

Watch the promotional video below, it does it far more justice than my own description.

It uses peer to peer technology (such as WiFi or Bluetooth) and theoretically will also allow cross platform file transfers, something that will likely follow.

It looks great and is almost certainly a project I'm going to play with this year.

Being a fan of the Posterous platform and a Mac user, I thought I would take time out to develop a Safari Extension of my own.

Safari_posterous_extension

I've wrapped up the official Posterous bookmarklet in to a Safari toolbar item, all the functionality of the brilliant bookmarklet remains but having a neat little toolbar icon seems just that little bit more elegant.

If you would like to use it for yourself then you can download it from here.

This tool will sort your Flickr photostream by the date your photos were taken. This is done by setting the 'posted' date of all of your photos to the date they were taken. sortmyphotostream.michael.tyson.id.au

This looks like the perfect answer to one of the more annoying niggles of Flickr.

I don't know how long this has been in place for but finally the AppleTV 2nd Gen running FireCore scrobbles any iCloud music you're listening to (providing you've also installed the Last.fm App via the maintenance option).

Genius.

Wed, 31 Aug 2011 11:51:00 -0700 An Interesting Approach from Spotify for iOS Developers http://blog.macjasp.com/spotify-inside-your-ios-app-spotify-developer http://blog.macjasp.com/spotify-inside-your-ios-app-spotify-developer

Spotify inside your iOS app

Today we are announcing a great addition to the Spotify Platform. The Spotify Embedded Player libspotify 9 is now available for iOS.

We hope this will enable a new category of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch applications with Spotify inside and allow for more immersive music experiences within iOS apps.

The documentation should help you understand what features are available and get your creativity going. Download libspotify 9 here. Samples to get you started are included. You may want to use the Objective-C wrapper available here. We also have a new FAQ that answers common questions and helps you avoid common mistakes.

Changes since the last release:

  • New: binaries for iOS devices
  • Change: login API - passwords must not be stored
  • New: sp_offline_time_left() - exposes time left before offline tracks will expire
  • Fixed: Logged in state now tells you when the user is in offline mode (logged in, but offline)

Please make sure to review the Terms of Use. If you want to use libspotify commercially please contact our Partner team.

We’ll also be hosting a tech meetup in New York on September 7th where we’ll be talking about this release and all things Spotify Platform and APIs so come and join us if you can.

Sten Garmark, Director of Platform

Sat, 23 Jul 2011 02:20:00 -0700 Xcode 4.1 Internal Error on OSX Lion http://blog.macjasp.com/xcode-41-internal-error-on-osx-lion http://blog.macjasp.com/xcode-41-internal-error-on-osx-lion

Ituneserror

This was an error I didn't expect to see.

Having being forced to download the latest Xcode from the App Store and after upgrading to OSX Lion, it would no longer launch.

The solution? For me the only way to fix it was to re-install the latest iTunes (beta) again.
